Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Collection Review

We’re always excited to take a look at kitchen gadgets with a bit of innovation, and today the Bosch TWK8633GB Styline Kettle is the focus of our attention. One glance at this kettle, and you’ll see how unique it is; its modern stylings are certainly unique and definitely striking. Let’s take a look at what it has to offer.

The Styline is one of the few kettles on the market to offer a variable temperature control. A lot of people don’t realise that 100 degrees is simply too hot for some drinks; many herbal teas, for example, simply taste a lot better better when a little cooler. The simple temperature selection buttons on the base of this device, allow you select a temperature of 70, 80, 90 or 100 degrees depending on what kind of drink you’re making.

Another unique feature is the built-in keep-warm function. This will maintain the water at the correct temperature for up to 30 minutes after boiling; great for those occasions when the phone suddenly rings before you get a chance to pour your tea!

It has an audible signal which sounds when the kettle has finished boiling, so if you’re in another room you’ll hear and know that it’s time for your cuppa.

As we’ve already mentioned, this is probably the most unique looking kettle around. It’s ultra-modern and very stylish to boot, but it doesn’t feel “over-designed”. It’s got a classy feel to it at the same time as being quite a breath of fresh air for a kettle! As well as the black model that we’re reviewing here, it’s also available in white (model number TWK8631GB).

The outside of the kettle is cool touch plastic, however the interior is lined with stainless steel. It has a 1.5 litre capacity, which should be plenty for 5 or 6 cups of tea or coffee.

It comes with a 360 degree base so that the handle can be position for right or left handed use. Bosch have also given some thought to the design of the body so that it’s usable not matter which way it’s turned. The water gauge is double sided, and the style of the kettle is the same no matter which side it is turned to.

The Styline kettle is a “Which? Best Buy” too, which is usually a sure sign of quality. We’ll put that to the test in a moment.

We found that most kettles were cheapest at Amazon.co.uk, including the Bosch TWK8633GB which is currently available for 25% off.

Customer Feedback and Reviews

As always, we want to take a look and see what the customers think of this kettle. Of all the customer comments and opinions that we’ve gathered, we found that 85% of customers were happy with their purchase. Over 82% gave the Styline top marks of 4 or 5 stars.

So what did they all like?

As you might expect, most people fell in love with the design. It’s a great looking kettle, and people had even received compliments on it from friends! Now that’s certainly no mean feat for something as dull and ordinary as a kettle! Both the white and black versions look really nice on the kitchen worktop, oozing quality and class.

The features were well received, especially by tea lovers who found the temperature controls very useful. The variable temperature control is also handy for saving a little electricity – why boil to 100 degrees when 70 is just right for drinking! It’s simple to use too. Simply add your water, select the temperature using the buttons on the base and then press the on button.

The keep warm function reportedly works very well too, maintaining just the right temperature. Customers reported that the kettle holds the heat well even without the keep warm function, so it wasn’t often necessary to use it. However, it’s handy if you get distracted by something before you can get your cup of tea ready (and it saves you wasting electricity by reboiling the kettle).

The Styline heats water quickly. One customer said that it can boil a full jug in just over 2 minutes, which is indeed nice and quick. If you’re just boiling a cup or two, you should have your hot water in a minute.

Lots of people were quite surprised by how comfortable the device is to hold. Bosch have included a “soft touch” handle which is nice and easy to grip and hold whilst filling and pouring.

It wasn’t all plain sailing though, and there were some minus points that came up.

The most common problem is the lid. Simply push a button and it’ll flip up, but the problem is that quite a few people found it could be a bit unreliable. It seems that sometimes, the button simply doesn’t work. Some people even experienced the button breaking entirely, however they were in the minority. It’s much more common for the button to simply take a few attempts in order to open the lid. It didn’t happen to everyone, although it was a common enough complaint that we picked up on it.

Another quibble, was that the water continues to bubble for a few seconds after the kettle has switched itself off. If you attempt to pour the water while it is still bubbling, it has a tendency to spurt out instead flowing out of the spout nice and smoothly. To fair, it only take a few seconds for the bubbles to die down so that you can pour.

25% Off at Amazon.co.uk

The only thing stopping the Bosch TWK8633GB from getting top marks is the lid malfunction that some people experienced. Apart from this, it’s an excellent kettle; it looks really cool, has a great range of features for tea lovers, it’s quick, easy to use and comfortable to hold.
