Panasonic SD-2501WXC Automatic Breadmaker Review

Panasonic invented the home bread maker way back in 1986, so the Panasonic SD-2501WXC is the culmination of 25 years worth of research (as well as a Which? Best Buy). With this in mind, and the fact the it is the best selling machine on the market, we’ve got super-high expectations. So without further ado, let’s see what this bread maker is made of!

This is an extremely flexible machine. With 11 different bread making modes, there are a huge variety of possibilities. Indeed, as well as the standard bread making modes that you’d expect to see in any bread maker, this machine is capable of baking specialist varieties such as rye or wheat, and even brioche! Also included is a gluten-free setting, for those on a special diet.

A unique touch is the built-in nut and raisin dispenser. Whereas you previously needed to nurse a bread maker in order to add these ingredients manually, this device makes the process 100% automatic. Simply fill it with fruit, nuts or seeds and they will automatically be added to your dough at the appropriate time. This makes the machine that extra bit more flexible, with the possibility to make all kinds of breads at the touch of a button.

Bread can be baked in 3 different sizes; M (400g), L (500g), and XL (600g). There is also a rapid option that can have a fresh baked loaf ready within an hour. A built-in delay timer means you can have it finish baking just in time for breakfast!

Yet another unique feature, is the way the machine handles your ingredients. The temperature of your ingredients is very important; too cold and the yeast will not do its job properly, too hot and the yeast will die (either way your bread will fail to rise). The machine handles this problem with ease, by warming your ingredients to the perfect temperature before it begins. Another simple but useful feature, and another thing you simply won’t need to worry about. Provide it with the ingredients, and it will provide you with fresh bread.

With the ability to create jams and compotes in the machine, as well as dough-only modes for making pizza dough and the like, this is most certainly a feature-packed bread maker. Panasonic has certainly pulled out all the stops to make this machine as useful as possible.

Customer Feedback and Reviews

This machine has been a best-seller for quite some time. As such, there are hundreds of customers that we can pick the brains of! Their response to this bread maker has been staggering; 98.5% of customers were happy with their purchase. Amazingly, 95% of customers were extremely enthusiastic, awarding 4 or 5 stars as well as a huge amount of praise. Let’s find out what people had to say.

There were so many reviews raving about how great the bread is, that we lost count! Comments from a wide variety of different customers all agreed: this machine makes delicious bread. There were people who’d been unimpressed with other bread makers, people who had never owned a bread maker, and even people who had been baking bread by hand for years. They all loved the bread, and praised both the consistency and the taste!

It was also quite clear that people found the machine very simple to use. Add the ingredients, select the program and size, select the crust type and hit the start button. The LCD display keeps you updated with what stage of the cycle the machine is at.

When the bread was done, nobody seems to have had any problems getting it out (which can be a problem with some bread makers); the bread slides out of the tin nice and easily.

Finally a lot of people noted that, although fairly large, the machine is well built and sturdy. It has a quality feel to it, and seems like the kind of appliance that is going to last a long time. Just as well, since bread making enthusiasts are going to be using it several times a week for years to come!

Very few people had anything negative to say, and the one or two negative comments that we found came from customers who were happy with the machine overall.

First off, a lot of people found that the beep which indicates when your bread is ready is simply too quiet. Therefore, if you’re in another room, you probably won’t hear it. It’s a minor problem we think; if you need to go elsewhere, you can simply set your own alarm.

The most common complaint, was that the raisin and nut container was very sensitive. You need to be careful when you close the lid. Closing it too hard can sometimes cause the mechanism to release and the nuts or fruit to be added to the dough by mistake. It’s not the end of the world, as the bread will still rise and bake, but it is definitely something to bear in mind if you want the perfect fruit or nut loaf.

Unfortunately, the timer can not be used if you’re making gluten-free bread. This is deliberate, as the ingredients of gluten-free bread are not dense enough to stop the wet ingredients from touching the yeast. This means that the yeast becomes activated straight away, and therefore a timer setting would be useless. There isn’t much that Panasonic could do about this, so we’re not counting this against the machine.

We’re impressed! Fantastic bread, all the features you could ever want, versatility, simplicity and quality: the Panasonic SD-2501WXC indeed has it all. This is a great bread maker, and one that we have absolutely no hesitation recommending. If you love homemade bread, you’ll love this bread maker.
