It takes quite a lot of power to crush ice, and quite a lot of blenders simply don’t pack that kind of punch. Today, we’re taking a look at one that does; the Philips HR2160.
Behind the HR2160 is a powerful 600w motor, with multiple speeds and a pulse action too. Along with the ultra-sharp serrated blades, this motor provides the horsepower to blend up anything: milkshakes, smoothies, and soups as well as ice.
Despite its power, this isn’t an expensive blender. Whilst it might not be the cheapest, it’s by no means expensive either; falling into the mid-range.
The included jug has a total capacity of 2 litres, and is made from a durable and resistant break-resistant plastic. This means you can blend everything with the confidence that you’re not going to do any damage.
One of the cool things about this blender is that the blades are detachable. This makes the blender nice and easy to clean. Unlike other blenders with fixed blades, there are no nooks and crannies for bits of food to get stuck in.
We found that most blenders were cheapest at Amazon.co.uk, including the Philips HR2160 which is currently available for 14% off.

Customer Feedback and Reviews
So how does the Philips HR2150 perform in the real world? To find out, we’ll take a look at what people who bought it have to say. The response to this blender was overwhelmingly positive; over 90% of customers were happy with their purchase. 87% of customers were extremely happy, awarding the machine 4 or 5 stars.
This blender might not be fancy or full of advanced features, but it simply gets the job done and gets it done well. Almost all customers said that it blends brilliantly, making short work of soups, milkshakes, and smoothies; blending them in seconds.
How about ice? Quite a lot of people specifically bought it to use the ice crush function to make frozen cocktails and drinks. The blender copes with ice really well; it’s a noisy job, but ice is crushed quickly and efficiently. One customer raved about his mudslide cocktails, so this a good machine to have around for dinner parties too!
People found the machine simple to use, and easy to clean too. The unique detachable blades certainly do help when it comes to washing up time, making the jug easy to rinse out and clean as well as the blades themselves.
Another plus point is that the blender is nice and light; most people wanted to store it in a cupboard instead of leaving it out all the time. It’s not heavy, so nobody should have a problem lifting it out of their cupboard as and when they want to use it.
There were very few negative comments about this blender, outside of a few isolated cases where people had received faulty devices.
Whilst the motor of the machine is powerful, it isn’t meant to be used for long periods of time. The manual states that it should be used for a maximum of 2 minutes before giving it a rest. One customer felt this was unreasonable, but we can’t think of any reason you’d want to blend for any longer. Soups, milkshakes, and smoothies are blended within 30 seconds. Ice takes a little longer, but certainly no longer than two minutes. We have to disagree with this customer.
One very minor point, is that the serrated edges of the blade means that it can catch on your cloth when cleaning it. We’d recommend that a sponge should be used carefully for this task instead.
The Philips HR2160 50 is a no-frills machine for sure, but it certainly gets the job done! If you like homemade smoothies, milkshakes, soups or even frozen cocktails then this blender will do the job well, without a lot of fuss. It’s dependable, durable and efficient.
